Fairfield Art Association-Located inside the Civic Center-

The Fairfield Art Association announces the opening of its annual membership exhibit of 10” X 10” Wood Cradle Panels, featuring the original work of thirty six artists. The exhibit will be in the Main Gallery at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center and will open with a reception for the artists and community on Friday, November 4, from 6-8 PM.

For the membership show, adult FAA members were provided a 10×10 wood panel ahead of time, and asked to create one original entry in any media. The panels could be painted as a canvas on either side, or treated as a shadow box and embellished with other media or materials. There are no frames, but the sides are part of the creation.  All works are for sale and priced under $300.

Viewers are invited to vote for a “People’s Choice Award” beginning this night and through November 30. The favorite piece will win the artist 2 tickets to a FACC’s Artist Series Show of their choice.

The Membership Exhibit will remain on display through January, with four cash “Outstanding Art Awards” selected by a juror and presented during a special award event in January.

“Community members will again enjoy seeing all the talent and variety of entries hanging side by side” says Suzan Kessel, FAA Volunteer Director. “It will be especially fun to see how artists handle the challenge of working with wood cradled panels this year.”

Exhibiting artists include; John Preston, Ingrid Saterstrom, Hans Olson, Jessica Kirby, Suzan Bates Kessel, Carlene Dingman Atwater, Debbie Finney, Annette Scieszinski, Ann Porter, Cynthia Ballou, Laura Weinberg, Gin Lammert, Deb Baughman, Kathleen Tachet, Kathy Tollenaere,  Ann Bosold, Wendy Read, Care Connet, Darlyne Engelman, Kathleen Almelien, JoAnne Worley, Karen Harris, Barbara Grimmer, Dorothy Rompalske, Susan Allison Bomzer,  Cathryn Layer, Carroll Michalek, David Pattison, Bonnie Jaye Hendricks, Brett Hendricks, Dori Lewman, Deb DeArmon, Jim DeArmon, Alex DeArmon, Christopher Bennett and Pam Lander.

The FAA’s Studio Art Gallery will also be open and feature more new works in a larger variety of media along with participating in the evening’s Art Walk “stamped passport” event with a drawing at the end of the evening for an art work.

Sculptor Christopher Bennett will be demonstrating in the Atrium Lobby beside his life size prototype of “Lee T. Gobble – Mr. Fairfield”, which is sponsored in part by the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Bennett will be creating a small figure on a wire armature, showing visitors what they can expect in an adult sculpting class with him this winter at the FAA. Anyone interested in the class can ask Chris questions and add their name to the list and suggest days and times that would be best to schedule.
